Monty Lawton

BIOGRAPHY:

Monty Lawton grew up in Riverside California below Sugarloaf Mountain. In 1985 he moved to Los Angeles to get his degree in Fine Arts from Otis Art Institute with a specialty in ceramic sculpture under the guidance of artist Ralph Bacerra, while working at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center and studied under artist Hirokazu Kosaka.

Upon comepleting his degree, he continued to produce sculpture, eventually focusing  on furniture design. With his design partner Mark Zuckerman, they opened IN HOUSE Furniture. Their work was well received and they developed furniture design for home and business. With honors such as the 2000 Good Design award and museum recognition for several of their designs, the pair continue to work on new concepts and products.

Recently Monty has suffered from restless finger syndrome waking him in the middle of the night and the result is poems that flow onto paper. A surprise for him, he one day found he had more than enough work for a collection of poems he title Light Edge To Burn. The collection covers a wide rand of topics and feelings, some literary, some philosophical, some reflective and melancholy, and some just plain silly. Interspersed with art he created for the book, this first book reflects his wide interests and desires.

He is currently working on his second book entitled CLAY.
